  1. I love to visit Nobbys Beach as it has many memories of when we were kids.
  2. Port Stephens as I spent my teenage years living there.
  3. Hunter Valley wineries as they have amazing food, wine and accommodation.

Why Michelle loves the Hunter?

“I love the Hunter as it's my home area. Born and bred Newcastle girl, the Hunter feels like home. The people are warm and friendly and there is so much on offer. Best of all, it's got a laid back feeling which you 'get' as soon as you arrive! Love it!".

3 places Paul visits while in the Hunter:

  1. Glenrock National Park. It has outstanding, must see beaches, such as Dudley, Leggie and Burwood.
  2. Boating on Lake Macquarie. Paul has a cottage on the water and just loves heading out towards the Swansea channel where he enjoys swimming, snorkelling and jet skiing on the waves or ski paddling.
  3. Walking around the Foreshore and out to Nobby's Beach, especially when the waves are breaking in a big swell. Paul also enjoys a coffee on the harbour watching the ships out at sea.

Why Paul loves the Hunter?

“It's the best place in the world. We have pristine natural beauties all found in one place - lakes, bay, vineyards. It has the nature of a large country town with city benefits.

You don't have to leave the Hunter - you can do it all here. Our people are unpretentious and the area encompasses all”.

Justin Norris

3 places Justin visits while in the Hunter:

  1. Newcastle Beach and Canoe Pool. Our kids use the Beach and Canoe Pool all the time. It is an excellent spot for familes with nice shallow water in the Canoe pool - they kids love it and the different ages can all play. There's also heaps of rockpools to discover. The concrete walkway along the beach is great and the kids ride their bikes down to the skate park at the southern end.
  2. Caves Beach. We like to go down the south end of Caves Beach with the kids as it's usually nice and gentle in the surf and also there are lots to discover around in the caves and rocks on lower tides. Nearby is Swansea, with the area near the caravan park a nice spot out of the summer winds.
  3. Stockton. I grew up in Stockton. Just a short ferry ride from Queen's Wharf Newcastle you can head to the breakwall is nice for a walk or bike ride, nearby is the skatepark and swimming pool. Or you can walk up to the surf club for some protected waves and a play in the park.

Why Justin loves the Hunter?

“I'm always so proud to represent the Hunter everywhere I go. I think it is the best place on earth! We have lots of great waterways here all year round and the vibe is really cruisy. Newcastle people are the best people, great hosts and down to earth.".

Dein Perry

3 places Dein visits while in the Hunter:

  1. Paterson
  2. Pokolbin Valley
  3. Morpeth

Why Dein loves the Hunter?

“When I was young I used to work with my Father and brothers delivering soft drinks throughout the Valley every second week. I used to look forward to this trip coming up as we would venture as far as Singleton as our last stop.

I always found Morpeth to be a very interesting place with antiques and heritage.

At Christmas time we would visit our cousins in Paterson and have a great time swimming in the river and playing great cricket matches.

These days it is fun to take my family to different places there to relax, explore and get away from the city life”.

Mark Richards

3 places Mark visits while in the Hunter:

  1. Merewether Beach. It is a really beautiful beach which has the best waves in the Newcastle area, and the views to Dudley on a clear day are spectacular. Also you can watch the whales go by in winter and there are regularly dolphins 'surfing' in the shore.
  2. Merewether to Glenrock beach walk. Best to do at low tide when the surf is small...start at Merewether Baths and follow the rock platform around to Burwood beach and go as far as you please. Feels like you are miles from the city and the scenery is stunning.
  3. Merewether Baths. Our civic forefathers had amazing foresight to construct these baths when they did. They are a pleasure whether for fun or exercise and I have never seen any like them in my travels overseas. Foreign friends have remarked on the fact that they are so big, and there is no charge to swim any time of year.

Why Mark loves the Hunter?

Born and raised in Newcastle, Mark’s family were all keen beachgoers and spent most of their spare time, down admiring and enjoy Newcastle beautiful beaches. The four time world champion (1979-1982) is well respected among the surfing crowd and Hunter locals. Spending his days shaping boards at his store, ‘Richards Surf Shop’ in Hunter St, specialising in custom made MR boards and inspiring young local talent to reach their goals and brave to big waves.
