Welcome to Newcastle
Newcastle, NSW, is set to celebrate organ and tissue donation as the host of the 13th Australian Transplant Games. The Games unite all those touched by organ and tissue donation and transplantation including transplant recipients, donor families, living donors and those waiting for a transplant, as well as the family and friends who have supported those going through the process.
Through sport and games, competitors say thank you to organ and tissue donors through their renewed state of health and wellbeing. Many transplant recipients have not been able to participate in any sporting activity for many years. This is an opportunity to once again get involved in sport at whatever level they are able to achieve. Ability is not a factor. The joy of a competitor being able just to compete is what is most inspiring. Often it is the competitor coming last who gets the greatest cheer.
Sports include swimming, athletics, cycling, 3km & 5km runs, lawn bowls, archery, golf, darts, scrabble, chess, soduko, ten pin bowling, table tennis, tennis, squash, badminton, volleyball and netball.
